Derwent Sebastian Coleridge Gibson is the great, great grandson of Derwent Coleridge, son of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Derwent attended Guildford Law School and worked for a firm in London’s Inner Temple before joining his father in Gibson & Co’s Hexham office during the 1970s.

He has a wealth of personal experience in successful property development and agricultural matters.

Living with his family on a large farm in Hexhamshire, Derwent has a deep knowledge of the countryside and a love of the law. From contract law in relation to livestock, farm and estate sales and purchases, in-depth capital tax planning and protection of assets for the future generations, his expertise is second to none.

Derwent is approachable and always interested in people. He has done his share of litigation and family law but now concentrates mainly on private client work, running a large workload with an able support team to shoulder new work with energy and enthusiasm. The Legal 500 praised him in 2013 for his “good knowledge of dealing with farming families and handling sensitive situations thoroughly”.

Always ready to travel, he works throughout England & Wales. He currently deals with various aspects of property law all over the country in both the rural and the industrial sectors.

Derwent is more than willing to discuss matters over the telephone or by e-mail.
