Jane graduated with a first-class degree in History from Cambridge University and obtained a first in her Law Society Finals. She trained with Allen & Overy, working for them from 1992 to 2003. She spent 1997-2000 in their Hong Kong office and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1998. Jane joined Gibson & Co. as a partner in November 2003.

Her areas of expertise include advising on a wide range of problems in connection with financial transactions. These include derivatives litigation and other banking disputes (including over investments in structured products) and related issues such as margin calls and other collateral requirements.  She acted for the European Commission on an important insolvency law point, which was referred to the Court of Appeal.

Jane’s expert knowledge also covers the following areas:

  • Banking litigation, often in relation to cross-border cases
  • Advising in relation to a range of commercial disputes
  • Settling disputes by mediation and arbitration

She has successfully represented a client herself at trial.  She maintains top tier ranking in Chambers and Partners for the tenth year running.  The ranking quotes client praise for her “efficient and practical outlook…she understands what an in-house lawyer needs”, earning praise for her “thorough knowledge of the litigation process and practical sense of how to achieve positive results”.  “Jane is absolutely razor sharp – she is frighteningly intelligent and has an ability to cut through the issues and quickly digest very complex problems … a top-class litigator with a sharp mind and excellent client care skills” (Chambers 2024).

She “is a superb lawyer and an excellent communicator”; “the type of lawyer that the other side wants to instruct afterwards”, “popular with clients, who champion her as “a fantastic litigator who is really on the ball” with “excellent judgement”, and “tenacity” who “doesn’t shirk from a difficult matter”. She is also ranked as a “Hall of Fame” leading individual in Legal 500, who commented that she is a “consummate litigator”, “expert at cutting through the issues to find solutions for clients”, “very bright and tough” and say she “is lauded for her excellent business acumen” and “a great negotiator, will fight to get the best outcome, and is very much on top of legal developments”.

Her out of work interests include running (she managed to complete the Great North Run in 2021 and the Allendale Challenge in 2022. Admittedly the latter at a walk) and her three children.
