Jane Gibson, Partner






















Jane graduated with a first-class degree in History from Cambridge University in 1989. In 1992, she obtained a first in her Law Society Finals. She trained with Allen & Overy, qualifying in London in 1994, and stayed with them until 2003. She spent 1997-2000 in their Hong Kong office and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1998. Jane joined Gibson & Co as a partner in November 2003.

Her areas of expertise include advising on a wide range of problems in connection with financial transactions. These include derivatives litigation, banking disputes (including over investments in structured products) and related issues such as margin calls and other collateral requirements.  In 2011 she acted for the European Commission on an important insolvency law point, which was referred to the Court of Appeal.

Jane’s expert knowledge also takes in the following legal areas:

 

  • Fund management disputes
  • Professional negligence claims
  • Advising in relation to a range of commercial disputes
  • Libel
  • Settling disputes by mediation

 

She has successfully represented a client herself at trial.  Her Chambers and Partners ranking for 2010 quotes client praise for her "efficient and practical outlook...she understands what an in-house lawyer needs".

 

In the 2011 edition of Chambers Jane is noted for her "...focus on banking-related work, earning praise for her "thorough knowledge of the litigation process and practical sense of how to achieve positive results.""

 

In the 2012 edition she is said to be "popular with clients, who champion her as  "a fantastic litigator who is really on the ball"  She has top tier ranking in Chambers.

 

Her out of work interests include running (she still talks of having completed the Great North Run in 2008) and her three children.
