Michael studied theology at Oxford. After a career in journalism, he qualified at the College of Law, Chancery Lane and was articled at Williams & James, Gray’s Inn (now Charles Russell) and enrolled as a solicitor in 1985. After two years in practice in Carlisle, he joined Gibson & Co. in 1987.

He has a general practice, with wide experience of domestic, commercial and agricultural conveyancing, mortgages and other land transactions, landlord and tenant matters and small business transactional work.

He also advises extensively on Inheritance Tax Planning and Wills, Probate and Trusts. Michael undertakes some contentious work, which includes divorce and ancillary relief, debt-collection, possession and rent actions in the County Court, as well as regulatory matters in the Magistrates’ Court.

He is based in the firm’s Hexham office, and is also the attending solicitor at Gibson & Co’s Bellingham consulting rooms, which serve the Upper North Tyne and Rede Valleys.

Michael lives in the Upper North Tyne Valley where he runs a small upland farm.
